A native of Washington and resident of Hawai'i from 1981 to 2005. Elizabeth Adams brings her personal vision and style to the canvas, portraying Hawai'i's unique culture and beauty in luminous tropical colors. Working primarily in oils, she describes the landscape and lush tropical flora in bold gestural brushstrokes and finishes with delicate detail. In addition to traditional canvas, Miss Adams often paints on her own hand made papers (of banana tree fiber, hemp, and recycled paper.) She has created an enviable body of work in multiple media, punctuated by many art affiliations, workshops, exhibitions and honors. At mid career, Elizabeth is celebrating a lifetime of artistic endeavors, fashion design, sculpture and back (to the canvas.)
As a child Elizabeth was fascinated by the vibrant colors and light that pulsed around her along the Northern Washington Coast. She spent many happy hours within sight of the San Juan Islands with her good friends, Crayola Crayons. Since then, Miss Adams has followed her heart in personal artistic expression. She studied textile and clothing design, resulting in a popular original hand painted clothing line, of her own design.
Elizabeth was drawn to the Hawaiian Islands in 1981. Over the years she has lived, studied, and exhibited art on Kauai, Maui and the Big Island. On Kauai she exhibited paintings in the Atlantis Gallery. On Maui she learned the art of papermaking, and studied oil painting with Steven Sands and Joyce Clark. Settling on the big Island in 1994 has led her to exhibitions, honors, and international collections. Among them are exhibitions at the Makk Gallery in Kona, and membership in the prestigious Na Kupuna'o Hokele Kona Ali'i, artists and ambassadors of the Hawaiian culture. When she's not busy painting, Elizabeth enjoys gardening and needlepoint as hobbies. A peek at her garden reveals the artist in beautifully composed arrangements of exotic botanicals (a favorite subject), punctuated with her whimsical copper sculptures and toile painted flowerpots and water fountains. Now living in Roswell, NM Elizabeth continues to create and exhibit in Fine Art Galleries and enjoy growing international renown.
